Dental Implant Procedure
The dental implant procedure is a three-step procedure performed over several months. It takes this long because the jaw bone must fuse with the implant in a process called osseointegration. Once your dentist has determined the implant is secure in your jaw bone, a post is inserted just above the gum line, which is then capped with a dental crown. Placement of the post and crown may be done as osseointegration continues. This can shorten the time it takes to get your dental implant.
In order for your dental implant to be successful, you must have sufficient bone in your jaw. If your dentist determines your implant might fail due to lack of bone, a graft may be possible.
Dental implants are permanent restorations for your missing teeth. Your smile and bite function will be restored, and no one will be able to tell that when you smile or speak that you have a dental implant.
