Why you should schedule your dentist appointment before the end of the year

You should schedule an appointment with the dentist before the end of the year to maximize your annual dental insurance benefits. Coming in before year-end can helps you plan for dental treatment needs in the coming year and determine how to fund your health care savings account or HSA.

We understand, this time of year can be a whirlwind. But, there are several important reasons for you to get in to see Dr. Jayne before year’s end. The are four main benefits for scheduling your dental care before the end of the year:

  1. It can be hard to get a dental appointment on short notice

Short notice dental appointments can be hard to come by from October through the end of the year. Making your appointment now can help you plan around the busy season that comes in late fall and early winter.

We get it. With holidays, vacations, and office closures can make it hard to schedule appointments at your dentist’s and doctors’ offices at the end of the year. Schedule upcoming dental treatment with Dr. Jayne now so you can beat the rush and enjoy your holidays. By contacting our office this month, it will be easier to find available appointments at more convenient times.

  1. Dental insurance plan annual maximums expire at year’s end

Most medical and dental insurance plans are on an annual calendar, with benefits expiring on December 31st. That means that your plan maximums and deductible also expire at the end of the year, with plans capping the amount of work they will pay for in any given year. If you haven’t already, schedule your check-up and cleaning before the end of the year. And, if you need additional dental work like fillings, crowns or periodontal work, use up this year’s insurance coverage. After all, if you are paying for the benefits, it’s smart to use them.

If you are unsure how much of your dental deductible you’ve used this year, you’re not alone. We help many of our patients make the most of their dental insurance benefits. We are happy to review our records to let you know how much has been billed to your insurance and how much is left on your plan. We can even help you plan on how to maximize your insurance benefits in the coming year. And, if you are in need of major dental work, planning together can lead to significant savings.

  1. Using funds from your HSA

Did you know that the tax-free dollars you and your employer add to your HSA can also be used for dental care? The money you’ve set aside can cover dental work that exceeds your dental insurance benefits. HSA contributions can even be used for treatments like crowns and restorative dental work.

You’ll want to find out if the funds from your HSA roll over from year to year, or if there are restrictions on the use of your HSA funds. Check with your HSA office, HR, or contact our office to help you understand which funds can be used for dental work.

If you have any questions, please ask us. We like to help you get the most out of your HSA. And, if you need major dental work next year, we can even help you plan for how much of your tax-free dollars should go into your HSA in advance to cover your future oral health needs.

  1. The holidays

The holidays are a joyous time of year, and we all like to look our best at holiday parties with family and friends. If you need dental work or a cleaning, schedule an appointment with Dr. Jayne before the holidays are upon us. By planning early, you’ll eliminate the additional stress of fitting appointments into a packed seasonal schedule and, your teeth will look and feel great when holiday time comes around.

Beat the rush and maximize your insurance benefits and schedule your appointment with Dr. Jayne soon. We look forward to bringing a smile to your face this holiday.
