Help! I forgot to schedule my dental appointment

Tips for getting in to see your dentist on short notice

Forgot to schedule your dental appointment?  It’s happened to all of us.  We forget to schedule a regular dental checkup or are suddenly worried about a cavity, but when we call, there are no immediate openings. Sound familiar?

What do you do if you can’t get an appointment to see Dr. Jayne as quickly as you’d like? Here are some tips and tricks to get in soon for your next visit.

Four tips to scoring a last-minute dentist visit

  1. Call us. As soon as you realize you need to see Dr. Jayne, let us know! If you have a lost crown, a cracked tooth or a minor toothache, call our office asap. Karen, our patient care coordinator can work wonders to find available openings to get you scheduled for a visit.
  2. One word: waitlist. If there aren’t appointments immediately available, ask to be put on our waitlist. It’s an insider’s secret that every dentist and doctor’s office has one. If you want to be put on the wait list, we’ll ask for your name, why you want to see the doctor, and the best way to reach you.
    1. Tip: Offer up the following information to Karen: Is it better to reach you in the morning or afternoon? Would you prefer we call, text or email?
Our office wants to reach you as much as you want to be reached, so let us know what works best for you.
    2. Tip: Answer your phone, text or email quickly. Put our phone number and email address in your contacts so you recognize our number when we call or text or email. If our call goes to voicemail, you risk losing the available opening.  So, please respond quickly and we’ll get you that precious dental appointment.
  3. Flexibility is your friend. We will always do whatever we can to accommodate you to see Dr. Jayne. Your chances of getting an appointment rise if you can be flexible with appointment times and dates.
  4. Let us know if you are having a dental emergency. If you have severe dental pain and bleeding, an infection or have a newly broken, chipped or loose teeth, we’ll get you in quickly. We always make time to accommodate patients who require immediate assistance.

Make an appointment in advance

Next time you check in with Karen take her up on her request to schedule your next cleaning in advance. Having Dr. Jayne monitor your teeth, gums and overall oral health will help prevent dental emergencies in the future. Advance scheduling also guarantees your appointment times.

We are privileged that you put your dental health in our hands. Contact Dr. Jayne for your next general or cosmetic dentistry appointment.
